Increasing Search Engine Rankings
Driving More Customers To Your Website
Did you know that at least 85% of people looking to purchase on line, use search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN to start their search?
By optimising your web pages you will rank higher in the search engines and get more visitors. Of these visitors around 2% will make a purchase. Thus the more people you have visiting your page the more likely you are to generate more sales. At the end of the day it’s a numbers game – the more people who come to your site the better chance you have of making money with your site.
There are many companies out there who will offer to do Search Engine Optimisation for you and charge you an arm and a leg and confuse you with terms and technology however it’s not that difficult to increase your search engine ranking.
There a are some things you can do:
Title of Pages – Ensure your page has a relevent title – this is the phrase that appears at the top of the internet browser. This is very important for Google
Meta Tags – the jury is out on this however it important to use the description meta tag this is a tag that describes what your web page is about and is what is displayed in the search engines when a search is conducted. It gives the searcher a description of what your web page is about.
Introduction Text - the first text that appears on the web page is very important. Too often people put text like welcome to my website which is of no relevence. You should put your keywords very near to the top of the page.
Content – this is essential. There is no point in putting up a website that does not provide good, interesting relevent content. For example putting up a site about life coaching and just putting up a sales page will not help your ranking. Creating a focused site on life coaching with plenty of relevent content will get you ranked higher.
Write naturaly – don’t try to stuff your content with your keywords. You need to write your content in a natural way otherwise the search engines may penalise you.
Links – try to get links from other sites to point back to your website. This can be quite easy to do.
